ABSTRACT

This study investigates the neglect of mother toungue language in education sector .protecting malayalam language is equal to protecting ones own body and identify. Malayalam is one of the 22 scheduled language of India.Malayalam was designated as a classical language of India on 2013.Malayalam has official language status in Kerala and Puducherry and is also the primary spoken language of lakshadweep and is spoken by 34 million people in India. This language has to be more than  1500 years old.so it is given the classical status.Tamil,Kannada,Telugu and Malayalam have satisfied these condition.we all have the right to speak in our mother tongue. But most of the schools in Kerala restrict students and even teachers from speaking and using malayalam. This study reveals whether there is any neglectance for the same through survey method.

INTRODUCTION

The education sector faces some major changes over the past five years Enrolmento f students in private schools is greates than the enrolment in student in schools. Tutoring business and universities have offered new services to expand their market base. Online education is a major devolopment for the Education Division and technology is improved permitting all areas of education.

A major shift in the educational system can be observed since the pre and post british rule till today in India. Initially the chilchen were educated in Gurukulas which was later modified and modern education was introduced.

Anyway some challenges are alto facing in the current educational system. There are many drawbacks in the educational system of India. Some of them are poverty, malnutmition, Lack of Resources Bigger focus on the English language, child labour,Neglection of mother tongue language, High cost of education .Out of these I selected the topic "Neglection of mother tongue language for our project work”

METHODOLOGY

In its most common sense, methodology is the study of research methods. However the term can also refer to the methods themselves or lo the philosophical discussion of associated background assumptions. la method is a structured procedare for bringing about a certain goal

For an effective survey method a list of questions have to prepare  to unnderstand the students knowledge in mother tongue. In one school we applied it as a google form because other 2 schools were UP and LP. Every members in the group prepared a list of questions and contributed their ideas. Questions was prepared for the students were easily understandable and answerable for an high school level student.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

The analys curd interpretalien of data is carried out in two phases. The first part which is based on the results of me questionaire deals with a quantitalive analysis of dala. The second which is based on tle results of the survey and focus group discussions it a qualitative interpretation on interpreting we can explain what these findings mean in the given context.

In this context of project work the finding which we obtained from our surveys and discusions with the students of UP and LP and high School levels indicates that the topic which we have taken for our survey is actually relevant and a current challenge in Educational system

Previous studies suggest that the most difficult area in writing malayalam for grade l and grade 2 students is signs., and that such children show improper use of vowel symbols in malayalam.Analysing our study through identifyng the incorrect spelling in dictation spelling of simple vocabulary and use of symbols for vowels, identitying the reading capacity of the child.

Difficulty occur with writing one word combining different alphabets writing full alphabets of malayalam among students of UP also. Use of signs of vowels, letter identification and knowledge of vowels also need further strengthening. Comparing boys and girls boys are behind the girls in composition and completion tasks boys performs poorer when the task becomes complex

5%-17% of school age children fail to devolop written language skills corresponding to their age.A study in malayalam has found that 1/5 upper primary studentd have spelling difficulty 1/3 of students had difficulty in identifyning letters in alphabet and more than 1/3 of them using vowel symbols improperly

In conducting malayalam writing for LP School students on an average the students at the end of third class make error on more than 5 words in the given 7 words .In our study analysing the identification of famous personalities who are inevitable in malayalam literature a small number of students identify all the 4 portraits

However I think there is no neglection of mother toungue language(malayalam) in these schools which we are visited for the survey but there is a lack of knowledge about the reading and writnig and also the understanding the eternal malayalam writers.

CONCLUSION

In kerala now the Government forces the Schools to teach malayalam as a must use language. It is a proud moment for each malayalis. For critical thinking and growth usage of mothertongue language is necessary. It doesnt mean that we should not study other languages we can study any language in the world. we can only know about our land and culture through our mother tongue. Using translated forms of literature it cant be effective to know about Ezhuthachan and Kunjan Nambyar .we never forget malayalam if we are working in other countrics and deals with other languages.

We have both English and Malayalam medium schools. But avoiding or neglecting malayalam language will never end to a successful study. we have to study our mother tongue to know our cultural heritage. From  the small classes steps have to be given for essential study of malayalam language.
